Hi, my name is Valentine, but you can call me Val or Sweet Pea (like my foster mom does). I had a pretty rough puppyhood until the kind people at AGSR rescued me. As you can see from my before and after pictures, I have come a long way. I was a sick pup with sad eyes and very little fur but now I am a happy, fluffy, bright-eyed girl.
My dream forever home would be where someone works from home or is at home most of the day. I have some separation anxiety, so I don’t like being left alone too long (< 4 hours). My foster mom has been working with me and I am starting to understand that she will come back so I am trying not to worry. I do better when left to free roam in the house, being in a crate makes me more anxious and stressed. Don’t worry, I don’t get into things I shouldn’t when you’re not at home.
I would love to be the only dog, but I would be okay with a medium to large sized male dog. No cats, please. When I get excited, I sometimes forget that I am not supposed to jump on you so a home with kids over 12 would be best for me.
I love to go on walks and get very excited when it is time for a walk. I like to play fetch and keep away too. I walk well on a loose leash and know how to heel. I sometimes focus on other dogs when I am on a walk, but I am learning that when my foster mom says, “look at me”, it means I must pay attention to her, not the dog. If you take me for a good 30-45-minute walk early in the morning before it gets too hot, I settle down nicely the rest of the day. I like to lay near you no matter what you are doing - working, cooking, or just hanging out.
I may not be a pure German Shepherd, but I am smart, attentive, and loyal. I also do a perfect GSD head tilt! I know several commands including sit, wait, and off. I learn new things pretty quickly and I really want to please you.
The folks at AGSR call me a pocket shepherd since I am a petite girl. I am extremely loving and will give you lots of kisses so be ready to get slurped. Unlike most German Shepherds, my fur is very soft, and I shed very little.
If you work from home and have a male dog or no dogs and are looking for a great companion, I am your girl!
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
