Smokey is like your best friend from grade school…always ready to hang out with you. From playing ball to tug of war with his favorite toy to a stroll through the neighborhood or woods just to check things out, he will be by your side, but when you are busy, he is content to lay at your feet or even be outside by himself. He is completely house trained and will sleep in his crate quietly, but it needs to be a large enough crate. He seems to be ok in the house by himself (i.e., not destructive) as long as he has plenty of toys, except he will find the occasional unguarded shoe or sock to abscond with. He is very friendly with strangers and I was told he came from a home with another dog. He would be perfect for an active (especially outdoors) family. He would be very happy with a family with kids and or other active dogs or possibly the right cats. Smokey is very smart and easily trainable. He really wants to please you and will return the affection ten fold. You don’t want to meet him unless you really want a dog, because you will fall in love with him quickly.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
