Meet Rico!
Rico is a very handsome, intelligent, and well-adjusted one-year-old boy with confidence, athleticism, and a big heart. At 80 lbs. of healthy energy, he thrives with a consistent routine that includes plenty of mental and physical exercise. He is extremely food and treat motivated, learns quickly, and absolutely beams with pride when praised for doing what you ask. Rico responds beautifully to calm, positive energy. He enjoys structure and routine and settles nicely after a good workout. Once his exercise needs are met, he’s happy to relax by your side. Athletic and long-legged, Rico can stand about 5’5” tall on his hind legs and can clear a 4’ fence or climb a chain-link fence using his paws. For this reason, a secure 6’ wooden fence is required.
Rico is: Housetrained (he will bark to let you know he needs to go out), Healthy, neutered, and microchipped, a big fan of car rides, and comfortable sleeping through the night uncrated in his foster’s bedroom. Crate training is still a work in progress. He knows sit, stay, and down, and his intelligence makes him eager to continue learning.
Rico's ideal home will be with a confident, calm leader who understands Rico's need for structure, positive reinforcement, a consistent routine, and regular exercise. He enjoys playing with his 80lb resident female GS and will thrive in a home with confident canines of his size and energy . Rico is a wonderful companion ready to bring loyalty, joy, and a lot of proud tail wags to the right home.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
