Hello everyone my name is Remy. I have bound into the rescue with a whole lot of ‘tude. Gratitude that is!
I was lucky enough to be rescued from a very neglectful situation where my collar was embedded into my neck. I have been very, very good with my foster parents during the healing process and have done all of my successful recovery with grace. One would think that all this would affect my opinion of people, however I am a strong girl and, despite my past experience of being neglected, I am overflowing with love, joy and confidence! My nature is that I absolutely love to be with people (foster parents as well as their many friends they have introduced me to). I am the definition of a “velcro dog”. I like to try and help with anything and everything the two legged dogs (people) do, but will also “do my own thing” when asked. I like toys and I have a lot of them but my favorite is just plain old sticks. I will run and chase those for as long as you want to throw them. I also enjoy training. I know how to sit, down, “hand following/targeting”, and wait. I have been working on some jumping skills too. I think I might like to try and do something even more challenging in the future like an obstacle course or agility training. I am definitely smart enough! If you reward me with food, I will do almost anything. My nature is one that wants to have a “job” so if you welcome me into your family I will definitely need some dedicated activity time to work, play and walk and train. I do walk well on a leash.
My foster mom and dad keep me in a crate at night and when they are gone. I really don’t mind my crate, it’s my own little place to relax. On occasion they let me spend the night outside of my crate, just in case my new parents would like to let me roam the house. I will let you know when I need to outside to do my business, but it is very subtle, so please pay attention to me when I’m trying to get your attention. Regarding other two legged dogs, there hasn’t been an individual that I don’t like – especially if you have a treat or a stick! My trust and confidence in humans has not wavered. When it comes to four legged dogs, I have had limited interaction with other 4 legged dogs at meet and greets and the vet office and have been frisky, and wanted to play but not aggressive; however I have had limited interaction due to the wound healing process in the past. I have not exhibited any anxiety in thunderstorms but I’m not too fond of fireworks unless I’m in my crate.
Well, that’s my story in a nutshell. From rags to riches and looking for my next adventure with a forever home.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
