Ruby is now available for adoption! She is a four month old ball of love and energy - not a couch potato dog!
Ruby is half German Shepherd Dog and half Belgian Malinois. This means she is smart, driven, crafty, and also motivated to please. She already knows the following commands: sit, downstairs/upstairs, inside/outside, go potty, drink water, ball, and leave it. She also knows how to play fetch with the ball but will occasionally decide she just wants to run around with it instead. She plays very rough with the resident 90 pound GSD/Malinois mix - and they both love it. Any resident animals her future adopter owns must be comfortable playing with a rough-and-tumble puppy, who is still learning about personal space. She is still teething, which means she should be supervised 100% of the time, or there's a good chance you'll find her with a phone charger, shoe, or something else naughty in her mouth.
Ruby is crate-trained, and definitely considers her crate a safe space. She crates readily and has never had an accident within her crate. She sleeps 8 hours at night without a peep - which is incredible for a puppy this age. Although she has never had a poop accident in my home, and only a few pee accidents, please remember that a puppy's bladder does not start to mature until about this age, so she needs to be taken outside frequently for potty breaks. She also has sharp little piranha teeth, and we're working on her teeth manners. This will naturally improve as she stops teething, but potential adopters should know how to address puppy biting so it does not become an adult mouthing behavior. She also likes to jump on people when she's excited - normal puppy behavior that should be addressed with consistent training. She walks on a leash every day, and we're working on those leash manners, too.
If you are still reading and are still excited about Ruby - yay! I want to remind you puppies are wonderful - and a lot of work! Smart puppies with high-drive personalities even more so. Ruby's future Mom or Dad should be committed to spending time training her with consistency and of course, plenty of love. Ruby is an incredibly loved and happy member of my family, and I'm looking forward to finding her the perfect permanent family of her own!
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
