Who needs some enthusiastic love and snuggles from the resilient Yondu?
This beautiful, three-legged German shepherd is our currrent foster from Austin Animal Center, and is ready for his forever home. He is 6 years old but has the enthusiasm of a 2-year-old and guarantees lots of play time with our resident frenchie Bob. He’s pals with the cat too, and respects her cranky feline boundaries when she needs space. He’s kind to our kids and any little ones that visit. (Lots of kisses!)
He’s only been a tripod for a few months, and while he does GREAT getting around, he’d be best in a home where he doesn’t have to go up more than 2-3 stairs. His ideal walk length should not exceed 20 minutes, as he has hip dysplasia but he will happily accept 2-3 of those a day. He is crate trained (and sleeps there each night), easy to walk on a leash, and is friendly with people.
He’s a little scared of bikes zooming by or joggers moving at speed, and doesn’t care for *all* dogs when leashed, but is making strong progress with positive reinforcement. His forever home will need to keep going with this training so he can be fully relaxed when he’s out and about. (Perhaps a bike was the source of his injury).
If you want to be showered in Yondu kisses and enjoy some loving canine energy, consider applying to adopt him! We are happy to arrange meet and greets with any future canine or human siblings to ensure a good fit.

NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
