Ivory1/6/10 What’s Going On Here?

The New Year started off great – lots of playtime with my new dog friends, and I was really getting the hang of napping on that nice Persian rug while the little kids watched SpongeBob Squarepants. That little yellow guy cracks me up! Recently, though, things have taken a definite downward turn. Not sure what’s going on here, but suddenly Mom started trying to sneak pills into my food. I heard her say the pills are called “prednisone” and “doxycycline”, but all I know is, they make me feel awful. I had just gotten pretty good at eating the pill pockets and spitting out the meds when Mom figured out that she just has to hold my mouth and stuff them down my throat. But I show her: As soon as she comes close, I take off! Adding insult to injury, today I had to have a SHOT! Something called “immiticide”. Not sure what that’s about, but I am not a happy camper. Hope I don’t have to have any more of those – it made me really sore. Going into my crate now to have a sulk.

1/7/10 Why Me?

Hoo-boy, things are going from bad to worse. Not only did I have to have another shot today, but now I have to be in this crate all the time! All the other dogs get to play and rough-house, and I’m stuck in here. Totally uncool of Mom, if you ask me. I hope she knows what she’s doing.

1/14/10 The Truth Comes Out: Heartworms!

Well, I’m still in this crate. Though I have to admit, it’s not so bad as I thought. In fact, I’m pretty tired all the time, so the crate is kind of welcome. I heard Mom saying something the other day – and the words “Ivory” and “heartworms” came up in the same sentence. Holy cow! I had no idea I had heartworms! Those nasty things’ll kill you! I figured out that those awful shots they gave me were a kind of poison – no, really! The immiticide kills the heartworms. But that’s only Step One. After that, the worms start to break down, and the only way they can leave is to dissolve enough to flow back through my blood vessels. That’s super-dangerous, because they can clog the blood vessels if I move around too much. Now that I’m “in the know”, my crate has become my best friend. I know that without rest, I could die. And there’s no way that’s going to happen, because finding my forever home is just too important. In fact, it’s the most important thing in the world to me.

1/21/10 Day In, Day Out

So the routine continues: Wake up (in crate, of course). Go outside to potty, with Mom supervising. Breakfast (outside of crate). Back into crate. 45 minutes later, back out to potty. Back into crate – all day. Dinner in the evening when Mom comes home. Outside to potty. Back into crate. Go to sleep. This is really starting to get old.

1/31/10 The Light at the End of the Tunnel

Dear God, how much SpongeBob Squarepants can one dog take???!!! I mean, it was nice once in a while, but every day? And who is this “Oprah” person, and what is it with these book reviews?? Very tired these days; the crate is now officially my home. I’m feeling better overall, though….I hope that means those %$#! worms are slowly dissolving. I heard Mom say, “Almost, done, honey!” this morning, and that makes me very excited. I gave her a good wag for that one. I really miss getting to play with my foster brothers and sisters, and hanging out with my little human pals. I never want to have heartworms again.
