Meet Laika! She is a fun loving energetic five-year-old female German Shepherd. Sweet Laika is long awaiting her forever home. Laika needs a yard where she can run and play--boy can she run! Laika is cautious and shy around people she has never met. She does warm up quickly as she gets to know you. Once she feels comfortable her personality begins to show.

When Laika gets excited or wants to join your conversation she has the cutest way of speaking! She has a howl that starts out quiet and gets louder as she seeks your attention. Like most shepherds, Laika is a big talker. You will melt when you hear her voice :-) Laika is very playful. She likes balls of all sizes and especially the squeaky ones! She also likes to play in the sprinklers and loves the hose! She likes to roll around in the grass, chase squirrels, and go for long walks.

Laika walks well on the leash and is very smart. She knows stay, sit, down and roll over (well almost) and she will shake hands. Laika has learned to wait at door until she is invited in or out. She has the best house manners! Laika does not require a crate but if you should decide to use one she prefers the metal kind. She is afraid of the airline type crates.

Laika has not had any interaction with young children or cats. Laika would do best as an only dog since she requires a longer adjustment period to figure out her place in the pack.

NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.

The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
