Buddy is a neutered male German Shepherd mix approximately one year old. He was roaming my Pasadena neighborhood when I found him about 6 months ago. He was apparently well-fed and good natured, but no one claimed him when “Dog found” posters were put up in the neighborhood. He is about 65 pounds and has a light colored soft coat similar to a yellow lab. He is current on all his vaccinations, tested negative for heartworm and is on monthly heartworm and flea control medications. He’s very sweet natured, house broken and even gets along well with an indoor cat. He loves to put his head in your lap while on the couch and curl up next to you.
He spends his days outside in the backyard with a 80 lb. 4-year old female Chow/Rottweiler mix and spends evenings inside the house with the other dog and present owner. He and the other dog play constantly but Buddy has become dominant over the other dog. He is still very much a puppy and likes to chew on anything he can find and he occasionally digs holes. He is extremely active; he gets a half-hour walk every day but probably needs more exercise. He needs a lot more stimulation and training than I can provide.
He can be aggressive to other dogs, especially when he is on his leash. He tries to chase cats (but a gentle leader stops him) and can jump short chain link fences (so I extended mine with bull wire). I have not taken him to a dog park since before he was neutered about 3 months ago because he was aggressive with certain other dogs during our last visit. He’s a wonderful dog, but I am not able to handle two large dogs by myself. If possible, I hope to find a home for him where he can sleep inside at night, get to be around an outdoorsy person and get some training. Please contact me, Ashley at greenash67@gmail.com or Phone: 512-517-5344, if you have any questions and are interested in providing a permanent home for him.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
