Bailey spent the night visiting a home with 2 cats. Bailey ignored the cats completely, but got scared when one of the cats started attacking her. She didn't defend herself, just tried to stay away from the cat attacks. If you have cats, and are looking for a dog that might fit in well with them, you might consider Bailey.... unless you have attack-kitties!

Bailey is a sweet, mature girl ready for a loving home. She is heartworm negative, fully vaccinated, spayed, up to date on flea meds and heartworm preventative. Bailey is fully potty trained, and will use either the "big door" or a doggy door if you have installed one.

Bailey is just looking for a person to call her own. She loves pets, belly rubs, ear fluffs, and brushing. Bailey was adopted into a lovely home through AGSDR back in 2006, but due to a serious medical situation experienced by her owner, she had to come back to rescue. So, now she's looking for another chance at happiness. That's what rescue is about though, isn't it? Second (and third) chances?

Bailey is a little more mature, and has outgrown the difficult puppy traits (like teething on your furniture, eating your shoes, careening wildly around the house, and pushing the limits of the rules). She is calm, and has a lot of love to give. She will follow her person all around the house, but also spends time in her doggy bed watching the 'goings on' in the house. She is very alert to things going on outside, and will let you know when she hears something unusual or when someone approaches the house, and she will also make sure people who enter are friendly. She has to be petted and assured that new people are "OK" or she will continue to bark to try to keep her home safe. Once she is familiar with someone, she welcomes them as friends.

Bailey had a bad ear infection once, and it affected her balance center in one ear, so she has an adorable little head cock that makes her look like she is pondering every word you say. It does not affect her gait, or her ability to get around in any way, in fact she loves to go for walks and follow her person around the house and yard. She loves to eat (and could stand to lose a few pounds), walks beautifully on a leash, and is generally a very happy and pleasant dog.

She has not counter-surfed, dumpster-dived, or chased squirrels. She gets along with 2 resident GSD's and 4 "cousin" GSD's with no trouble at all. In fact, introductions were very short because Bailey just ignored everyone except her people! She loves to go "visiting", and rides well in the car, and enjoys sniffing around other people's houses when she visits. Bailey will go into the crate willingly, but she is not crated during the day because she has not destroyed any of her foster home's belongings or furniture, and because she gets along so well with the resident dogs.

Bailey is not a high-energy, high-intensity dog, and she does not require a lot of exercise time. She enjoys a daily stroll around the neighborhood, and she will benefit from some continued training on guest-greeting etiquette. Bailey is loving and very responsive to her person.

Are you looking for a loving, low-maintenance, mature GSD to share your life? If so, Bailey could be the girl for you!

NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.

The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
