Chief is a very large male GSD and probably Akita mix. At the end of August, this poor boy was emaciated, heartworm-positive, and nearing his last couple of days at the Boerne Animal Control facility. After some food. love, and heartworm treatment, he's now a beautiful, healthy, HW-negative, lovebug with a big smile. He still needs to gain weight and will probably be about 90# . Apparently, he had never been trained but now knows sit, down, and (with insistence) heel. He loves being petted and playing with stuffed toys. The vet has estimated his age at 7 years old, but he acts more like a 2 year old, with lots of energy and a big desire to play. Chief is very affectionate, gets along well with his foster family (a Dobie-Shepherd mix and two pomeranian), and spends much of his week frolicking at the Pawderosa Ranch Stay and Play daycare in San Antonio . However, he does have some dog aggression (when a strange dog enters his yard or when in enclosed, stressful spaces, like a moving car) and definitely dislikes cats. Chief has the Akita temperment and can be a bit stubborn and dominant. He needs a foster home equipped with a six-foot fence that can give him consistent training and lots of exercise.

Please contact Chief's foster mom, Debra, if you'd like to add this sweetheart to your family.

NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.

The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' direct experiences with the dog. The dog's age is an estimate, and statements about the state of health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, is estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different.
